During the early Dangerous recording sessions (roughly 1989–1991), Michael Jackson’s voice underwent a significant stylistic and structural evolution. Working heavily with new jack swing pioneer Teddy Riley, Jackson intentionally pivoted away from the cleaner, lighter pop-soul delivery of his earlier eras toward a much more aggressive and textured sound.
