She was first torpedoed at Wake Island before being repaired to return for the Guadalcanal Campaign to oof the light carrier Ryūjō during the Battle of the Eastern Solomons. Afterwards she provided air support during the New Georgia Campaign, the Gilbert and Marshall Islands Campaign, and then the Indian Ocean to support the British in retaking Java and Sumatra. Afterwards, her last mission was in the Battle of Iwo Jima as a dedicated night fighter carrier, before being used as a target for nuclear bombs as part of Operation Crossroads.
