One of the sister ships of the Baltimore-class heavy cruisers. Nicknamed the "Longest Ship in the World" as her stern was blown off from a typhoon, where it was thousands of miles from the rest of the ship. She was launched late in the war, just before the Battle of Iwo Jima, where she was assigned to Fast Carrier Task Force 58, guarding the aircraft carriers from enemy aircraft and rescued stranded airmen and sailors.
