One of the four Agano-class light cruisers of the Imperial Japanese Navy. She first saw action during the Battle of the Gilbert Islands where she failed to make contact with the United States task force. Later on, she was part of several cruiser divisions during the Bougainville Campaign, the Gilbert Islands Campaign, and the Invasion of Tarawa. She last served in the Philippine Campaign where she was at the Battle of the Philippine Sea as one of the flagships of Rear Admiral Mikio Hayakawa, then Sibuyan Sea where she left unharmed despite being swarmed by aircraft, and also the Battle off Samar where she helped sank the USS Gambier Bay.
