Lead ship of the Scharnhorst-class battleships and the predecessor of the Bismarck-class battleships. Along with her sister, Gneisenau, they were called "The Ugly Sisters" since they raided and sank British merchant ships along the North Sea. She met her fate at the Battle of the North Cape, where a destroyed radar system in blizzard-like conditions meant she was easy pickings for HMS Duke of York's shot from 10KM away and torpedoes from the other Allied ships.
